FAQ

What kind of vendors are you looking for? Do the items I want to sell have to be handmade?

Yes!
The items you intend to sell must be handmade by you!
We will not accept applications for vendors interested in selling a service or selling other items (i.e. Tupperware).
We are also currently not accepting applications from food vendors.
We are looking for vendors who make art and crafts that fit in with the contemporary craft movement.
If you make any type of "country craft" items or items that would be found at a traditional craft fair, please save our time and yours by not applying.

How do you decide who gets in?

This is a juried event. That means we have a jury that gets together to look through the applications and photos of work submitted.
Each application is judged based on the photos that are submitted with the application - so if you make a variety of items, make sure you submit photos of more than one type of item.
Applications are also judged on the overall quality of work and how well it will fit in with the type of contemporary crafts we are seeking along with items offered by our previous vendors.
Finally, the jury looks at the category that the items fit into since we like to have a wide variety of items available at each event.

Why did my application get rejected?

We will send you an email explaining why your application was turned down by the jury.
Typically applications are rejected when no photos representing the work are included and when the jury decides that the work presented does not fit in with the indie aesthetic of the event.

What does it mean if I get placed on the waiting list?

Accepted vendors may be placed on the waiting list in the event there are many more applications than there are available spots for new vendors.
Individuals may also be placed on the waiting list depending on what category their items fall into. For example, jewelry is our most competetive category and we always get more new applicants than we have space for in this category. There are also a large number of previous and accepted jewelry vendors competing for spots in this category since we only have a limited number of spaces available for this category (like all categories) to keep the selling competition low between vendors in the same category.

Do I need a Tax ID number to sell?

Yes!
While we don't specifically ask for it on our application, you should have a valid Iowa tax ID number.
All vendors are responsible for collecting the Polk County 6% retail tax on their sales.
