asmita’s camp shirt and lisboa pajamas

Asmita recently shared her latest creation—a chic pajama set crafted from the Camp Shirt and Lisboa Shorts patterns. Her choices are nothing short of impressive, producing a garment that’s versatile enough to work both inside the home and beyond! This year has been full of firsts for me, starting with my very first proper night suit, followed by a halter top (Enmore), and most recently, my first attempt at shorts. When the Lisboa shorts pattern debuted, I was thrilled. Having only just discovered the joy of wearing shorts, this particular pattern caught my attention because its elasticated waist seemed like the perfect beginner project for someone like me who was eager to dive into sewing. While detailed patterns are great for learning new techniques, there’s something special about a straightforward pattern like this one. It allows for creativity and styling flexibility. With that in mind, I decided to turn my Lisboa shorts into part of a cozy pajama set. ![Woman leaning against a railing wearing a button-up pajama shirt and pajama shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/a7a8bf504a9ecb9f72ec9eeb5c2ed3ad.jpg) **Size Details and Modifications** Using my measurements (waist 30-31 inches, hip 41 inches), I initially drafted a size 12 toile. Unfortunately, it turned out to be far too large. Paying attention to the finished measurements proved crucial since these shorts are quite loose around the thighs. For my final version, I downsized to a size 10 with two key adjustments: I shortened the crotch length by ½ inch and narrowed the waistband to 4 inches to create a slightly gathered effect instead of the intended flat waistband. Typically, I need to shorten patterns due to my height (5'4½"), but this time around, I didn’t have to adjust the length. I used the standard 5-inch seam allowance. Initially, I debated whether to include pockets, but ultimately decided to keep the front ones. Like many people, I’d much rather have pockets than none! The Camp shirt, which I sized at 4A, underwent several modifications. To add a touch of elegance, I chose a luxurious linen fabric from my stash. The fabric’s label simply reads “European shirting linen,” and it crinkles beautifully, giving the entire outfit an elevated look. ![Close up of a woman wearing a button-up pajama shirt and pajama shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/f147f6d47c96dc7171447fa1d6ddc07e.jpg) ![Back view of a woman wearing a button-up pajama shirt and pajama shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/08cd226fa73d6cdf28da42612f83f4ba.jpg) One decision that took considerable thought was whether to add piping for a more traditional pajama aesthetic. After weighing my options, I opted against it and instead added delicate running stitches using cotton embroidery thread wherever I had planned to place piping. While subtle, I think the effect is charming and adds a personal touch. ![Close up of woman wearing a button-down shirt, detailing running stitch embroidery](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/86dd771fdca552cf2b8d2f7f6e232698.jpg) Another perk? These pieces can easily be styled separately. I now have the freedom to wear the top and shorts independently, and even step out of the house in my shorts if I’m feeling adventurous. Making this ensemble taught me something valuable: how to rethink pairing two classic wardrobe staples in fresh ways. Together, the Lisboa shorts and Camp shirt exude a luxurious pajama vibe, yet worn apart, they feel distinct and versatile. This adaptability is what makes well-crafted garments so exciting. ![Woman standing outside wearing a button-up pajama shirt with day shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/6286d68591484c28bb533c7b2a86f979.jpg) --- Looking back, I’m always eager to learn something new with each project. In this case, it was realizing how two seemingly simple pieces could transform into something truly special through thoughtful styling. Sewing has a way of pushing boundaries and inspiring creativity, and this project certainly did just that.
